It starts when Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Mark Zuckerberg, have change their Facebook profile picture and followed by them millions of people copied it usingfb.com/supportdigitalindia.
The owner of biggest social media company puts Indian Flag on his Profile picture. It increases the fame of Pm Narendra Modi throughout the world, even Pakistan and Afganistan people praised him for this:-
But it became indigestible to those political parties who oppose PM Modi in India and they were afraid about losing their political base amongst youth. So, they started spreading rumors that –
“if you change the Facebook profile picture in support of Digital India, it will automatically added your vote and support for internet.org and than internet neutrality will be over in India , Reliance will capture whole internet market etc ”
And it is the most stupid rumor spread by political parties because it is a digital age and everyone can easily find out the source code of any page so I also open the source code of that page and try to search internet.org but I did not find anything like that in the source code. I am also sharing the screen shot of it:-
In the right hand corner it was a “find” dialogue box and I typed “internet.org” in it and it shows zero result. So it is the most stupid rumor spread by those who think that youngsters in India are fool.
Other than this I am also sharing the screen shot of the page thought which we added this profile picture:
Now, as we all know whenever we install any app or software or change something on internet we get “Terms and Conditions” but in this page there is no term or condition. It only says this:-
Now in that picture, there is no “hidden terms or conditions” and they did not mentioned about internet.org. So there is no harm for so called “Net Neutrality”.
Yesterday few people have seen the internet.org thing in source code .It was nothing but a mistake of an employee of Facebook. We software people generally re use the same code in several scripts so it could be understood. It is not that much big issue which some politically motivated people try to make it.
However, Facebook itself came out to rubbish these claims by Internet activists. Facebook Spokesperson said:
“There is absolutely no connection between updating your profile picture for digital India and Internet.org. An engineer mistakenly used the words ‘Internet.org profile picture’ as a shorthand name he chose for part of the code. But this product in no way connects to or registers support for Internet.org. We are changing the code today to eliminate any confusion.”
So guys now you can change your DP to give support to Digital India.
